Surrounded by a 95,000 hectares private reserve and perched on top of a spectacular viewpoint, its villas and its swimming pools overlook waterholes where the famous Samburu elephant, leopard, reticulated giraffe and Grevy zebra gather to drink. The vastness and the purity of this African landscape, combined with the untouched local culture, will make your wildlife safari a different experience. We are close enough to game drive inside Samburu National reserve, Buffalo Springs National Reserve and West Gate Conservancy, but many activities take place in Kalama, a well-kept secret of Kenya's North. The recent introduction of water means that Kalama is becoming an important attraction to all the Samburu wildlife. Our activities include night and morning game drive in Kalama Conservancy, rock climbing, professionally led game walks, bush dinners and star gazing. The traditions and semi-nomadic heritage of the local Samburu people are an important part of the experience. Led by professional Samburu guides, our guests enjoy a new dimension of this rightfully popular region: the feeling of exclusivity, of having an incredibly large area totally to their own, and a high level of comfort and tailor-made service.

It is an intimate lodge set in a private conservation area which borders the Masai Mara National Reserve, the most famous game park in Africa. With accommodation for o¬nly 14 guests in six spectacular cottages, it is set in a remote valley at the heart of the most exciting wilderness of Kenya. Saruni offers a new concept of African safari: a real African adventure lived in harmony with the Maasai warriors coupled with high standards of style and comfort. The design of the large cottages mean you can experience both the elegance and safety of permanent accommodation with the thrill of sleeping in close contact with nature. The rooms are furnished with colonial antiques, Persian carpets and African art. The atmosphere at the camp is informal but elegant. Each cottage has hot and cold running water, 220-volt electricity, elegant Italian bathroom fittings, polished wooden floors, and large bathrooms where the canvas front can be totally open to offer you an amazing "shower with a view". Décor is unique for each cottage and from the large verandahs o¬ne enjoys a unique view of the Mara plains and can watch the many wild animals that come to our waterhole. Your safari actually starts o¬n our massive cedar beds, from where you can see in total privacy elephant, leopard, waterbuck, bushbuck and impala traversing freely and peacefully in the grounds of the camp. Kuro House is the common dining area and is a mixture of old-fashioned Africa and modern design. Its huge fireplace is the focal point of life at Saruni and it is here that our guests exchange memories of the day's safaris. While reminiscing they can start to savor the exceptional cuisine that is served around our long table and uses fresh, locally grown and organic produce in inventive ways. Alternatively, meals can be taken in the bush among the wild animals, with birdsong and animal calls as a backdrop. By separate arrangement a candlelight dinner can be served o¬n your own verandah. A unique feature of Saruni is its collection of books and its library, the most beautiful in the African bush. With thousands of rare books and its very private location, Saruni's library is a place where to meditate, to rest, to think. Saruni has a low impact o¬n the environment thanks to the use of solar power and the recycling of waste. The Spa at Saruni In collaboration with Grand Hotel des Iles Borromees (Stresa, Italy) and its world-famous spa - Centro Benessere Stresa, Saruni runs Wellbeing Spaces at both lodges. Our guests enjoy massage and wellness treatments under the supervision of highly trained staff devoted to the use of local plants for beauty and relaxation treatments. The new techniques combine sophisticated methods developed at Centro Benessere Stresa with ancient Maasai wisdom and knowledge. For instance, we use Olsinoni leaves (Lippia Javanica) for their detoxifying and purifying properties. Also, we use pure gel from Usuguru (Aloe Kedongensis) and compresse of Olleleshwa leaves (Tarchonantus Canphorantus) to remove skin impurities and to improve the natural regeneration of the cells. In pedicure we complement more traditional products with Ol-Emoran leaves (Hoslundia Opposita). Among the treatments available, you can choose between the lymphatic drainage massage, decongestive or nourishing or purifying facials, manicure, pedicure and the popular sport massage. All with an open view where bushbuck, elephant and waterbuck roam freely.
